What's included

What does a gutter installation include?

A full installation covers more than hanging gutters. We assess how water leaves your roof, choose the right material and profile, install every run with the correct slope, and add downspout extensions so the water ends up away from your foundation.

  1. 1

    Property assessment

We assess your property, talk through your gutter needs and look at where the water currently lands.

  2. 2

    Material and style

Aluminum, copper, steel, vinyl or zinc, in K-style, half-round, box or fascia profiles.

  3. 3

    Slope and positioning

Each run is installed with the correct slope and positioning, securely fastened to carry water to its outlet.

  4. 4

    Downspout extensions

We provide downspout extensions that carry the water away from your foundation, not beside it.

  5. 5

    Leaf guard, if needed

On homes under trees, a leaf guard system keeps the runs from clogging.

Why it matters

Why do New Orleans homes need gutters?

Because a roof concentrates rain. Every inch that falls on 1,000 square feet of roof is roughly 620 gallons of water, and New Orleans averages about 63 inches a year. Without gutters, that water drops in a line along your walls, soaking the soil the house sits on.

On the low, flat lots common here, water that lands beside the house tends to stay there. Over time that shows up as washed-out beds, damp walls, rotting fascia and soffit, and moisture at the foundation.

Rainfall: NOAA 1991 to 2020 normals for New Orleans, via Current Results. Runoff: 1 inch of rain on 1,000 sq ft is about 623 gallons, from the USGS figure of about 27,154 gallons per inch on an acre.

Our selection

Which types of gutters do we install?

We install seamless aluminum, box style, half-round and custom metal gutters in aluminum, copper, steel, vinyl and zinc. For most New Orleans homes we recommend seamless aluminum. Half-round profiles in copper or zinc give a more traditional look.

Side by side

Seamless or sectional gutters?

Seamless gutters are one piece per run, so they have far fewer joints than sectional gutters, which are joined every few feet. Joints are where most leaks and sagging start, which is why we recommend seamless for most homes.

Where the water goes

Where should your downspouts send the water?

At least 4 feet from your foundation, onto ground that slopes away from the house. On flat New Orleans lots, longer extensions or a better outlet location often make the biggest difference to how well the whole system works.

Downspout extensions are part of how we install, not an afterthought. Our guide to where downspout water should go on a New Orleans lot goes deeper.

What are seamless gutters?

Seamless gutters are formed as one continuous piece for each run of the roof, instead of short sections joined together. With no joints along the run, there are fewer places for water to leak or debris to snag. Seamless aluminum is the system we recommend for most New Orleans homes.

Are seamless gutters worth it?

For most New Orleans homes, yes. Joints are where gutters usually start to leak and sag, and seamless runs only have joints at the corners and downspouts. That means less maintenance over the life of the system, and fewer weak spots when a heavy storm hits.

How much does gutter installation cost in New Orleans?

The price depends on how many feet of gutter your home needs, the material and style, the number of stories, how many downspouts and extensions you need, and whether you add a leaf guard system. We assess your home and give you a free estimate with our recommendation before any work starts.

Can I install gutters myself?

You can hang short sectional gutters yourself, but getting the slope, hanger spacing and downspout placement right is what makes a system work. Seamless gutters also need forming equipment. In heavy New Orleans rain, small slope mistakes show up quickly as overflow, so most homeowners are better served by a professional install.

How long does gutter installation take?

We'll tell you how long your installation will take when we give you your free estimate. The main factors are the size of your home and the system you choose: a simple, single-story home goes faster than a large or multi-story one with custom materials or a leaf guard system. We'll walk you through what to expect when we give you your free estimate.

Do I need gutter guards in New Orleans?

If trees hang over your roof, a leaf guard system is usually worth it. Leaves and debris are what clog gutters, and a clogged gutter can't handle a heavy New Orleans downpour. Guards cut down on clogs and on how often you need to clean, though no guard removes maintenance entirely.

How far should downspouts drain from the house?

Downspouts should discharge at least 4 feet from your foundation, onto ground that slopes away from the house. On flat or low lots, which are common around New Orleans, longer extensions help. We provide downspout extensions that direct the water away from your foundation and landscaping.

How often should gutters be cleaned in New Orleans?

At least twice a year, once in spring and again in fall. Homes with a lot of tree cover, or gutters coming out of a heavy storm season, may need more frequent cleaning. A leaf guard system can stretch the time between cleanings and cut down on clogs.
